Tusheti to Khevsureti: A 5-Days trekking tour

This is a multi-day trekking adventure designed for those seeking greater challenges, wild nature, and the experience of camping under the open sky.

Dates: Any date from July to September

Duration: 5 days / 4 nights

Driving distance: 400 km

Difficulty: Hard – significant elevation gain/loss, demanding terrain, plus two long off-road drives on steep mountain roads.

Accommodation: Tents + shared twin/triple rooms in guesthouses.

Group size: Any size

Pick-up: 7:00 am from your hotel location



Trail Details

  • Difficulty: Moderate to hard

  • Distance: 40 km (A → B route)

  • Elevation range: 1360 m – 3436 m

  • Total elevation gain: 2948 m

  • Total elevation loss: 3578 m

  • Water sources: Streams, springs, and village/guesthouse taps

  • River crossings: 3 on Day 3 (can be fast-flowing with high water)

  • Trail description: The route is demanding but manageable, with most elevation gained gradually over several days. The highlight is Atsuna Pass at 3436 m, the trek’s highest and most challenging point.

Day 1: Tbilisi ➝ Tusheti

Early morning departure from Tbilisi. Drive across Gombori Pass and the dramatic Abano Pass – the highest drivable mountain pass in the Caucasus – into Tusheti. Explore the charming villages of Omalo, Keselo, and Dartlo. Overnight in a cozy guesthouse in Girevi.

Day 2: Girevi ➝ Kvakhidi Meadows


After breakfast, begin trekking toward the picturesque Kvakhidi Meadows. Horses will carry the luggage, leaving you free to enjoy the scenery. Overnight in tents beneath the stars.


Hike: 16 km | ⬆️ 980 m | ⬇️ 580 m




Day 3: Crossing Atsuna Pass

Trek over Atsuna Pass (3436 m) – the most demanding and rewarding section of the route. Set up camp at 2800 m with unforgettable views.

Overnight in tents.

Hike: 14 km | ⬆️ 1405 m | ⬇️ 1168 m




Day 4: Atsuna Pass ➝ Ardoti Village

Descend through alpine landscapes and cross mountain rivers on the way to Ardoti village. Enjoy local hospitality in a traditional guesthouse.

Overnight in Ardoti.


Hike: 9 km | ⬆️ 300 m | ⬇️ 1511 m

Day 5: Ardoti ➝ Tbilisi

Journey back toward Tbilisi, stopping at the fortified medieval villages of Shatili and Mutso, and the mysterious Anatori Burial Vaults. Drive over Datvisjvari Pass (2689 m) before returning to Tbilisi in the evening.
